12/28/2022 0 Comments When did the original doom come outThe feel is spot on, clearly retro in all the right ways yet also unique (I love the unlocked 360 degree look for jumps - and jump pad super jumps - followed by smoothly auto rolling depending on your landing angle), like a long lost classic of the Quake era we get to rediscover in 2017-18. Also, FarCry was before Crysis, I don't see any way Ubisoft descended from Crysis instead of their adopted FarCry but okay it's all similar in some ways although FarCry has gone in an almost RPG-like direction since 2 where Crysis never did so I don't think they really looked at that at all when developing their sequels.ĭusk so far appears to be better than pretty much all the games mentioned here by the way (the relatively new ones, not the original Doom etc). Anyway, your whole premise is so wrong I'm stopping. Not everything with some broad description like "superhuman powers" and "choice" is the same to make such claims, again, these are super vague terms even if they apply to all, might as well call it all "FPS" and leave it at that if you don't wanna go in more depth. Unless you want to tell us Crysis descended from System Shock which I don't see it at all. Similarly for Manking Divided, why would that be descended from Crysis and not, er, Deus Ex? Crysis was more about wide open spaces, how is complex vertical design with nooks and crannies descended from it in traversal? You could climb and shit in SS and Deus Ex you know. Prey is not descended from Crysis, it's basically a System Shock love letter, wtf. Fortunately, there's a TON of well made DOOM WADs to play.Īlso, I think another huge part of why a number of people found DOOM to be so groundbreaking was because prior to release nearly everyone expected it to be terrible, but then it turned out to be not only good, but pretty great! Not as groundbreaking as the original of course, but just a really well made and very fun game. However, while I don't think it would have worked today in DOOM '16, a big part of what was cool about DOOM 1/2 for me was the speed (and exploration). My favorite bit was the bossfights (wish there were more!) and of course the guns feel awesome. I'm kind of a fan of Serious Sam and Painkiller, so to me it was indeed a much more well made, higher budget version of those kinds of games, but with an even more awesome setting and enemies, etc. Honestly, DOOM 2016 I found to be a pretty good game. If you haven't played DOOM 64 in some form and are someone who disliked DOOM '16 compared to DOOM 1/2, go do that.
